How to Register a Company in Bahrain
A clear, ordered walkthrough of setting up a company in Bahrain — from choosing your legal structure to getting your Commercial Registration (CR) and opening a bank account.
-
Decide whether a WLL, individual establishment, branch or Bahrain Shareholding Company (BSC) best fits your ownership, liability and capital needs. A WLL can be owned by one or several shareholders and suits most businesses.
-
Submit a few name options to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC) for approval, and choose your business activities (CR activities) through the Sijilat portal. Some activities allow 100% foreign ownership; others have conditions.
-
Get your initial Commercial Registration (CR) issued through Sijilat. At this stage the CR is registered but the activity licence is not yet active.
-
Secure a registered commercial address or lease that matches your activity. Some activities require physical premises; others allow an approved incubator, flexi-desk or virtual office.
-
Draft the Memorandum / Deed of Association (and Articles of Association where required), setting out ownership, capital and management, then have it notarized.
-
Open a business bank account, deposit the share capital if applicable, and obtain the bank certificate and IBAN confirmation.
-
Complete the remaining requirements and obtain your licence from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC), activating your CR so you can legally trade.
-
Set up your LMRA account for work permits and register with SIO/GOSI for social insurance so you can legally hire employees, whether Bahraini or expatriate.
-
If your turnover meets the National Bureau for Revenue (NBR) threshold, register for VAT and set up your filing schedule to stay compliant and avoid penalties.

Everything you need to know
Why register a company in Bahrain?
Bahrain is one of the easiest and most cost-effective places to start a business in the Gulf. Most activities allow up to 100% foreign ownership, there is no personal income tax, and the Kingdom sits at the heart of the GCC with quick access to Saudi Arabia and the wider region. Whether you are launching a startup, opening a regional office, or expanding from abroad, registering a company gives you a legal Commercial Registration (CR) that lets you invoice clients, open a corporate bank account, sponsor employees and sign contracts.
This guide walks through the full company formation process in Bahrain from start to finish. If you are still deciding on your legal form, read our guide on how to choose the right company structure first.
How long does it take and what does it cost?
For a straightforward activity, company formation in Bahrain typically takes two to four weeks from name reservation to an active CR. The exact timeline depends on your chosen activities, whether any of them need special approvals, and how quickly you can provide documents and open a bank account. Costs vary by structure, activities and capital, so the best way to get an accurate figure is to book a free consultation or use our cost calculator for an instant estimate.
Before you start
Have your shareholders’ passports ready, decide on a few name options, and shortlist the business activities you want on your CR. Choosing the right activities matters — they determine which approvals you need and whether an activity allows full foreign ownership. You can browse the full list on our CR activities page.
Do you need a local partner in Bahrain?
One of Bahrain’s biggest advantages is that many activities allow full foreign ownership, so you often do not need a local sponsor or Bahraini partner — a real difference from some neighbouring markets. Whether your specific activity qualifies for 100% ownership depends on how it is classified, which is why selecting the right CR activities is such an important early step. Our team checks this for you before you commit, so there are no surprises later. If you are weighing your options, our guide on choosing the right company structure explains how ownership, liability and capital compare across the main company types.
What to do after your CR is issued
Getting your Commercial Registration is the beginning, not the end. To start trading smoothly you will usually open a corporate bank account, set up accounting and bookkeeping coordination, register with the LMRA if you plan to hire staff, and put your VAT position in order. Many founders also arrange office space and business essentials at this stage. Each of these is covered by a related service below, so you can move from registration to fully operational without gaps — and stay compliant from day one.
